A Perspective On What Video Games Really Do

Teenagers are drawn to video games because of the challenge they provide. To succeed in a fantasy world/video game, you have to complete a set of certain tasks or quests. Multiplayer is another feature that people use to interact and challenge other people through the internet in their games.

Elijah Font, another junior at the iSchool and gamer stated, “It is very fun for the adventure and action story plots that come from in the games, as well as the challenges and tasks it provides.”

Why is it that video games entertain us so much that it affects our daily lives in different ways?

People play video games on consoles or PCs because of the lack of activities to do, where you’re forced to be active and constantly move.

But the negative effects is that you don’t get any exercise and staying inside can affect your muscles and mental activity, which causes dizziness, loss of awareness, and other symptoms.

Video games not only teach the player mentally, but also physically. Video games have been tested and proved to improve many aspects of your many senses and physical abilities. Video games also teach people how to formulate a strategy and quicken their thought process because the game happens in real time and the player needs to be able to hit those buttons and move their character in the correct way or they will lose the game.

Jonathan Levin, a freshman at the iSchool and a gamer, stated, “Video games affect me in a bad way because it distracts me from school and the rest of my work.”

Some people say video games are so engaging to teenagers because of the fantasy aspect that is in the games.  A lot of teenagers are drawn to fantasy, things such as magic and other unrealistic things.

The negative side is that fantasies can cause distractions on our work and other activities, as well as cause social problems. Rarely, it can cause psychological problems when people think of their fantasy to be real.

But, some reasons for laying is by passing the time and to enjoy certain aspects of the game that people play.

Amanda Rivero, another freshmen at the iSchool and gamer stated, ”A reason that I play video games is to pass the time and distract myself from many things.”

Rivero also stated, “Video games affects me in a good way because it relieves my stress and helps get away from life.”

Video games can actually help with certain skills. It is useful for people who train in certain simulations, to help them with their vision as they look for certain things that are in the area. Instead, it is showing signs of muscle failures and other problems in the functions of the body and the mental state of an individual. It can also show signs of over-excessive gaming, which can lead to addiction.

Jose Ovalle, a Junior at the iSchool and a gamer talks about how video games affect him when he plays, and what has came from that experience of gaming. He stated, “Probably in a good way because it helps me practice puzzles that I might encounter later on in life.”

Therefore, this shows that video games not only positively affect the human body but it also deforms muscle mass in the human body.
